YELLOW BALLOON FAIR

What a celebration on Saturday! The sun was shining and our school was transformed into a joyful wonderland! Our community all came together to put on a wonderful, magical 37th Yellow Balloon Fair that was enjoyed by so many people!

Further updates coming once the YBF team has a chance to gather their thoughts, but thank you for your sticks and loose change, your lawns for signs, your handmade prizes, contributions to the raffle and auction, your willingness to rearrange schedules and make time to volunteer at the fair, and more!

A million thanks and congrats to the hard-working YBF team for their hours of work, for their leadership, for set up and clean up, for getting and managing student volunteers, for planning all the games, crafts and prizes, for marketing the fair, for the raffle and auction, for getting sponsorships, for planning, shopping and serving food…phew! Great Job TEAM!

There will be an opportunity for comments and suggestions about the fair in the End of Year Survey.

–>If you have a yard sign, please return it to CNS so it can be used again next year for the 48th Yellow Balloon Fair!

BOOK SUGGESTION

Kate DiCamillo is one of my favorite children’s book authors (previously featured for her Mercy Watson Series). Like her author page on Facebook – she shares some wonderful observations and insights! She and illustrator Chris VanDusen have teamed up again to publish the origin story of Mercy – A Piglet Named Mercy. Now we know how Mercy came to live on Deckawoo Drive! (For older children – especially dog-lovers – check out Because of Winn-Dixie – although Zoe loved it as much as her older sister!)

BOARD UPDATES

Hello CNS Families,

At our last board meeting on April 2 we passed the budget for the upcoming school year, 2019-2020. While we have a healthy operating account, as you know tuition does not cover all our operating expenses. Fundraising is one way we make up the difference to balance the budget, but we’re always searching for other revenue-generating sources, both in our community, and from the outside too. One such thought was to implement a materials and supplies fee to go directly to the costs associated with the materials teachers use in the classroom (e.g. art materials, play items, etc.), and the supplies that are needed to maintain the school’s environment.

And so, after a lot of consideration and in an effort to reduce the burden on fundraising, the board voted unanimously to institute a $50 materials and supplies fee per student, except in cases of hardship. Sisy will explain more about how this will work later, but for now, if you have any questions about how we came to this decision, please feel free to email me at mactuna@mac.com, or get in touch with any of the CNS board members.

The next board meeting is on Tuesday, May 21 at 7pm in the Studio. All welcome!

Tuna Chatterjee, on behalf of the CNS Board

Their Grand Special Person can then arrive at the later time mentioned above.NO CIRCLE PICK UP on this day. Children may leave with their Grand Special Person at noon (just let us know in advance) or be picked up by their routine caregiver. Please let Sisy know if you have any questions.

CALL FOR SUPPLIES – LOOSE PARTS & LOOSE CHANGE

We would love your help with our loose parts collection for a YBF craft project. We are seeking any materials that the children can use to create a collage. Some ideas include:
Small puzzle pieces
caps
wrapping paper
ribbon
washi tape
bubble wrap
packing popcorn
straws
washers
colorful rubber bands
Please place items in the bins on the Resource Room Table (near Janet’s desk).
Also, help your child start collecting loose change. Once again, the YBF haystack game will be a way for the CNS community to give back to a local charity – of the children’s choosing!  Last year we donated $70 to the Latino and African American Tenacity Challenge. Starting next week, the YBF team will place a container at CNS to collect loose change. Let’s see who we can help this year!
Thank you,
Rebecca Hagopian and the YBF game and prize committee (rebamg18@gmail.com)
