Come Play Yoga
Celebrating mind, body and spirit.
A fun and creative approach to movement designed for preschoolers, celebrating the uniqueness of the child within a community setting. Children learn creative movement concepts and yoga poses through games, drama, songs and stories. Each class has a balance of structure and self expression to build a movement vocabulary while promoting self esteem, body awareness, focus and community. Eclectic music and a variety of props will enhance our rich exploration. We will end each class with a relaxation.
Children should dress in comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.
Yoga mats will be provided.

Let’s learn Spanish!
This is an introductory Spanish class for preschoolers to help them build a basic Spanish vocabulary and to initiate their desire to learn more about the language and culture. Children will learn common subjects familiar to them (colors, numbers, shapes, commands, etc.) through stories, songs, games, and more!
Danielle Millett is currently a teacher in the Middle Room at Community Nursery School. Previously she taught High School Spanish for 10 years at Framingham High School and Belmont High School. She majored in Spanish with a minor in education at Colby College and has a Masters in Spanish from Middlebury Language Schools. She also lived in Spain for three years.
Lets make some music with our feet! This is an energetic and expressive class that will have your Tiny Tapper learning rhythm, coordination, choreography and basic tap terminology. This class is designed for boys and girls ages 3.5 - 5. Tap shoes and comfortable attire are recommended. Classes will be held in the CNS Studio on Wednesdays at 1P-2P and instructed by Daria Miano.
Dancing and performing since the age of 5, Daria Miano received her training at Harford Dance Academy (PA), The University of Florida, Southern Dance Theatre (FL), Demetrius Klein Dance (FL), Broadway Dance Center (NYC), The Ailey School (NYC), and Dance New Amsterdam (NYC). Since moving to Boston, she has trained at The Dance Complex in Cambridge and Jeanette Neill Dance Studio in Boston.
Daria has had experience teaching dance to young children and teens throughout her career. Most notably, Daria directed the children's classes at the Highland Lake Dance Studio in Highland Lake NY.
She has performed and choreographed for various dance companies including Jazz Dance Inc (Boston), Bellybeat (Boston), The Movement Collective(NYC), Rosario (NYC), Floridance at The University of Florida, X:10 Dance Project (FL), Triad Dance Ensemble (NY), and Illusions Dance Company (FL). Daria has also been seen on stage with The Delray Beach Players (FL).
Daria is looking forward to sharing her experience with the CNS Community.
Kids Cooking Green
Kids entering grades 2-5 are invited to join a series of Kids Cooking Green Cooking classes at the Community Nursery School (CNS) kitchen. Join us at CNS at 12:30 with a bag lunch from home (no nuts please!) and we’ll lunch together before class, which runs from 12:50 - 3:00 Sign up for all 8 classes or choose the classes that interest you (see prices below) We will work on knife skills; learn about kitchen safety; talk about what is local, seasonal and nutritious; and have fun as we cook away the day! Kids will go home with recipes and a taste of the cooking project to be shared with family!
September 26 Gnocchi
Any idea what Gnocchi is? And, can you say it like an Italian would, GNOCCHi! In this class you will learn what they are and learn how to make them by hand. Gnocchi are in the pasta family, but made with potatoes. We will make a delicious basil and broccoli pesto as a sauce for them...yummy!
October 3 Cake and Ice Cream
Let’s make a seasonal cake of oatmeal and local apples and then churn up some delicious vanilla bean ice cream!
October 10 Waffles 101
Come learn a new twist on an old favorite: WAFFLES! We’ll make roasted pumpkin waffles with warm cinnamon pears and hand whipped cream.
October 17 Savory and Sweet Pies
Let’s make Savory PIES from scratch, starting with classic dough. Kids will learn to mix pie dough that turns out tender and flaky, roll it to perfectly fit a pie pan and then create a tasty filling. We will make a savory farm spinach and cheese quiche as well as individual fruit tarts.
October 24 Pasta and Ravioli
Ever wondered how the professionals make handmade pasta and cheese-filled ravioli? Come learn how they get all that great filling inside ravioli. Have you ever heard of lemon pasta? Kids will make, knead and roll out their own pasta, and then make homemade butternut squash ravioli and a brown butter sage sauce.
November 7 Bake and Decorate Healthy Cookies
Let’s make and decorate some homemade New England cookies! Each child will prepare a batter, then bake and decorate their own box of delicious cookies to bring home from class! We’ll make three kinds of cookies: oatmeal raisin, chocolate orange and sugar cookies. Come learn how to use a pastry bag and to decorate a cookie like a professional baker!
November 14 Gingerbread Houses!
Make and design your very own Gingerbread House. Learn how to make the gingerbread dough, how to cut the gingerbread walls, and build your own house using royal icing! How do you make an edible stained glass window or a candied wreath for your front door?
November 21 Thanksgiving Pies
The holidays are here! Let’s celebrate by making mini holiday pies. We’ll explore how to make homemade pumpkin and apple pie from scratch. Learn the technique of making a great pie dough, how to roll it out, and fill it with your favorite fruit flavors! Each child will go home with their own mini pies! Delicious!

Children are invited to share in a unique story time art experience during which we will sing, read, and immerse ourselves in art! Each class will include songs, stories, and artistic adventures. Children will dabble in process-oriented art while exploring some of the media used in picture books, including paint, collage, sculpture, drawing, and more!
Registration fee includes $20 materials fee.
Teacher Amy Kvaal is a former elementary teacher of 10 years with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with a Focus in Literacy. Amy is inspired daily by the creative processes of her own two children, Caroline—age 6 and Cecilia—age 3. She cherishes her time spent at home with her children—laughing, playing, enjoying books, and getting messy with art.
Zumba! is a fun, high-energy class that includes a mix of dance and aerobic movements choreographed to popular radio hits as well as music from around the world. Boys and girls ages 4-5 are invited to participate, and no previous dance experience is required. Classes will take place at CNS in the studio room on Friday at 1-2P. Zumba! will be taught by Zumba instructor Renae Stockton Nichols.
Renae Stockton Nichols worked as an elementary classroom teacher for eight years. Renae has always loved music and dance, and especially loves dancing with her two young children. At their request, she has spent countless hours choreographing easy steps for little feet to ensure fitness and fun. Renae is thrilled to combine her love of classroom teaching with the joy of sharing music and dance with children.
